Welcome Announcements and Harmony of Hope: How We Can All Hold Space For Patients
Speaker: Tracey Piparo, PA-C, DFAAPA, Palliative Medicine PA, RWJBarnabas

CME: 0.75

According to NHPC 2020 Palliative Care Needs survey, there were over 89,609 seriously ill individuals served in 2019 and one of the biggest challenges noted by palliative providers is referring providers and patients/families not having an understanding of palliative care. It is estimated that approximately 70-80% of cancer patients could benefit from palliative care services at some point during their illness trajectory (Ferrell et al., 2019). With the increasing recognition of the importance of early integration of palliative care in oncology, the potential patient population that would benefit from interdisciplinary care between Palliative and Oncology PAs is substantial. By working together, we can ensure that all oncology patients receive comprehensive, patient-centered care that addresses their unique needs while providing numerous advantages including improved quality of life, enhanced symptom management, better communication and decision-making, reduced healthcare utilization, and, in some cases, prolonged survival.
